Growing up youngest of six in a Catholic family in the Midwest, I don't think I had even heard of yoga until college. I was not ready. Driven by curiosity and a passionate aversion to freezing winters I began traveling to beautiful places. I quickly fell in love with hiking up and down hills from Africa to the Caribbean to the Hawaiian Islands. More influenced by Thoreau, Kerouac, and Muir than Patanjali I wanted to breathe fresh air and be in motion.
I fell equally hard for yoga at 30 and relished 8 years in the studio soaking in all I could integrate. In 2009, I was ready to fuse my two passions and Hiking Yoga was launched. San Francisco was the perfect blend of hills, fresh air, stunning views, and one of the most progressive yoga cultures in the world. Pouring myself into getting more yogis out into the fresh air over the next three years has been the most rewarding and satisfying offering of my career. I am so blessed to be recognized in features in Yoga Journal, CBS, ABC, Forbes Magazine, Frommer's, Men's Journal as well as many other local and national media. Even dearer to me are the invigorated smiles on the faces of yogis falling in love again with the hills and trails in their community, feeling their bodies in a new way.
We have locations around the country and soon will have them around the world. Carina and I are now training others to bring Hiking Yoga to their communities. Our innovative teacher training program is equal parts developing business skills and learning to lead yoga hikes. This is a unique combination not offered by any other training and allows you to thrive as both a yoga teacher and business owner.
Sharing insights and wisdom I have picked up along the way is an honor. I love working with studios, retreat centers, and teachers around the world helping them bring their vision to a growing community. I spent 2 years training at Coach U on small business and life coaching. I have always burned with a passion to make my life uniquely mine and this inspires all that I do helping my clients do the same.
When not leading a hike, I am usually found hanging with my fabulous wife Carina & our baby girl Quincy. I am a huge fan of the afternoon nap. We spread our time between Bay Area, Kansas City, and Uruguay.
After 10+ years working in high tech, Carina decided to join the hiking yoga team. She has done more yoga hikes than anybody (except Eric of course) and is constantly striving to make Hiking Yoga a better experience for teachers and yoga hikers alike. Her focus on systems and continuous improvements have enabled Hiking Yoga to grow and continue to do so at an alarming rate. Although Carina does not run regular hikes, she can regularly be seen assisting Eric on his hikes.

Emily Galvin
(Bay Area, CA)
Emily Galvin RYT has been developing her yoga practice since 2002. She was first drawn to yoga after numerous sports injuries and a need to take control of a body that was working against her at such a young age. From the moment she stepped onto her mat her passion for the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga lead her to study with some of the leading teachers in Southern and Northern California. Her practice then led her away from the corporate world and into a place where she wanted to share this beautiful gift of yoga. She received her 200 hour certification in Interdisciplinary Hatha Yoga with Don and Amba Stapleton at Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. She then packed her bags and her yoga mat and took her exploring and teaching through South America were she taught at an Eco Farm in Argentina, the Jangala retreat in Peru, and in the mountains of Chile. A call from home took her teachings back to the Bay Area where she was excited to take her discoveries and share them with her students. The insight of numerous teachers allowed her to practice in styles from Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, Yin, and mixed styles of Hatha (Power and Gentle Flow).
Her relationship with yoga continues to grow, change, inspire, center, balance, and bring love and light. Her intention as a teacher is to help others to learn/heal from the inside out. She is working to start a non profit that brings yoga as physical and mental therapy into the hospitals. Movement and laughter are essential to life and thus the basic structure of her style of teaching. She is known for her easy flow and transition between poses and ability to help students listen to their bodies and explore in their practice. This style allows Emily to guide in her Beginners classes and her more advanced morning flow classes since it is the student that learns become the real teacher. Her yoga classes encourage students to tap into their own creativity and to stay present and rejoice in the NOW.

Monika Kaufman
(San Francisco, CA)
"Yoga is my passion and sharing it is my bliss. Monika has been teaching and practicing yoga for over a decade. Unlike a lot of yogi's, yoga was not love at first sight for Monika. She was a reluctant convert to say the least. Having been an active person, personal trainer and fitness instructor with everything from aerobics and step, to body pump and spinning...yoga seemed foreign, wimpy and mystical. But who knew? Curiosity and further investigation into yoga thru her western mind and body kept validating it's benefits so she kept trying it. Luckily, a powerful flowing yoga practice appeared and finally she was hooked. Today she feels her background in sports, degree in Health and Wellness, and her original healthy skepticism, help her to relate to students from many different backgrounds. Monika is now in a full blown love affair with yoga--far beyond the postures. She is committed to de-mystifying yoga and making it palatable to the masses. She feels the asana practice (physical aspect) is a gateway to self-study and peace. Her former high-strung self is now a life coach with a mission to be a catalyst for herself and others to practice radical self-care, loving intimate relationships, down time, and simplicity. Her mission is in action at Corepower Yoga in Berkeley where she currently teaches, leads Teacher Trainings and is the Regional Manager. She has joyfully relocated from Colorado to California to introduce CorePower Yoga in Berkeley, and to co-create a community of supportive like-minded people and enjoy all the great food and culture the bay area has to offer.

Lana Mir
(San Francisco, CA)
Lana, a yoga instructor and recording artist, discovered yoga at her local gym in NYC six years ago. At first she was attracted to the physical aspect of the practice however found it challenging to stay in Savasana Pose and meditation. Sitting quietly without moving, facing her own thoughts felt confusing and very new. Through practicing yoga Lana found a whole new world in NYC and became a regular student at various yoga studios. It wasn't long before practicing both the physical and mental aspects of yoga became the only escape in her busy life and what was once challenging became the only way to bring peace and tranquility to her fast-paced living. An expat from Kiev, Ukraine Lana was on the road to becoming a recording artist. After years of working at restaurants, her hard work finally paid off. Lana landed a recording contract with Unfiltered Records and her self-titled debut album Lana Mir was officially released on August 24th, 2010. After completion of her first yoga teacher certification through Kripalu in Lenox, MA, she returned to NYC and immediately started teaching friends using Central Park as her classroom. Lana is currently located in SF and is excited to offer Yoga to the San Francisco community. She is teaching at local studios and privately. Lana is regularly attending yoga workshops and evolving herself as both a teacher and an artist. Check out her website www.lanaflow.com

Wesleigh Roeca
(San Francisco, CA)
Introduced to yoga in 1997 as a fourteen year old competitive swimmer, giggling through downward facing dog provided some much-needed lighthearted energy to Wesleigh's training regimen. Eventually burning out in the pool, she continued to find solace on her yoga mat, completing her first 200 hour teacher training at It's Yoga in San Francisco in 2003. She began teaching immediately. Since then, she has continued her yoga studies and completed YogaWorks' 500 hour Professional Program in Santa Monica, CA. When she's not exploring this remarkable city by the bay and leading hiking yoga adventures, she can be found either hiding out in her cubicle working for Yoga Journal magazine, teaching vinyasa flow classes at studios in SF, or volunteering with the Art of Yoga Project, an organization that teaches yoga to at-risk girls.
Wesleigh's hiking yoga frolics are lighthearted adventures geared to provide a challenging yet accessible workout while simultaneously creating an atmosphere of introspection and appreciation for our surroundings, ourselves, and our community. Her passion for movement, play, and the great outdoors is contagious.

Kristin Wilhite
(San Diego, CA)
Kristin fell in love with yoga as part of her movement requirement during her studies to be a Holistic Health Practitioner (Specializing in Massage and Nutrition) at the School of Healing Arts, San Diego in 1997. After suffering 18 years of chronic respiratory infections and spinal misalignment, Kristin discovered Holistic Health modalities were the key to her wellness. Nutrition stopped the infections. Therapeutic massage loosened years of adhesions and scar tissue from injuries, dancing, volleyball and basketball. Patricia Pace's Zen Yoga classes transformed Kristin's body. Her spine found alignment as Kristin relearned how to walk, hike, and do everything through building a new sense of mind and body awareness. Building core strength, and utilizing breath, relaxation, meditation, and restoration techniques have given her a new lease on Life and the ability to move with joy! Kristin completed her Yoga Teacher's Certification in 1999 with a pain-free body. Teaching Yoga is a true calling for Kristin as she loves to guide others to their own recipe for health. Kristin has enjoyed hiking so much here in and around San Diego that she produced an integrated Yoga Stretch for Hikers DVD in 2008, giving her the opportunity to share two of her absolute passions with the World. www.Pro-Holistic.com, www.StretchNation.com

Sharon Prothe
(Kansas City, MO)
Hiking yoga is the bliss of both the embodied stretch and sweat, both equally loved by Sharon. She stumbled upon yoga at the gym in 2002 to get a good stretch. She quickly realized in her first downdog that a yoga practice was more than just about being flexible. The linking of breath and movement, as moving meditation, was just what this corporate working wife and mommy of two needed at the time. Sharon s yoga practice also gave her the time to hop, stand on her head and balance on her arms. In those moments she is able to smile a little bigger, breathe a little deeper and be mindful of all her blessings. She has since left the corporate world to spend her "work days" inspiring others to play, smile, and breathe more. She coaches bootcamp at CrossFit KC and wellness coach. In 2009 she completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher Training at Kansas Siddhi Yoga. Sharon is a runner, tri-athlete, and Tough Mudder finisher.

I believe in moving the body to release, build strength, and let go. With an extensive background in gymnastics, fitness, and dance, yoga asana has resonated with me well. I am a firm believer in the power of body movement and breathe to create energy flow. I also believe there is something to be said about the power behind the physical practice to prepare one for meditation or quieting the mind as well as making you look and feel good. Having taught yoga for 3 years and leading yoga hikes in Austin since February of 2011, I enjoy many types of physical activity and have seen a great response to the combination of hiking, yoga, and nature. Practicing more, it became the way I understood my body, connected and learned how to live beyond pain.Within a year, I decided to began teacher training with my first teacher Amy Johnson. I have been teaching ever since. Alignment-based vinyasa flow is my style. Amy Johnson, Dice lida-Klein, Catherine Allen are all amazing teachers I have the honor of primarily learning from. Kimi Marin
(Portland, OR)
I discovered yoga ten years ago looking for an activity to complement my running. Over time, yoga became less of a complementary activity and more of a way of life. I began to see how my yoga practice reduced stress levels, lessened the constant mind chatter, and helped me not only to build physical and mental strength but also a way to slow down in a rushed life. I teach yoga to help others reach a deeper understanding of their Self and to share the joys of yoga. Inspired by the continuous flow of breath through our body, I guide students through their practice by riding the waves of their breath, continually aligning breath and body into a rhythmic flow of consciousness.
I have Masters Degree in literature, and love to combine the power of stories with my love for yoga. I often weave in the myths and stories about various poses into the class allowing students to fully encapsulate and embody the spirit of the postures.
I look forward to seeing you at Hiking Yoga! You can always learn more about me and my classes at: www.kimarinyoga.com
